I found an image I'd uploaded earlier of said storm I was telling you
about. The image is slightly discoloured, but 7 years can do that to a
newspaper. It's at
http://www.geocities.com/flame_stryke/images/jpg/Storm1.jpg. And it
appears I was off by 2 years, it was 98, not 96.

Holy ... ... ok, now that's just freaky... and the guy certainly had to
realize he was driving deeper and deeper into the water, it couldn't of just
dropped that far into it unless he was going a pretty good clip and ended up
that far into it before his car stalled out... still... it was deceptive
looking.. laugh..

Actually, I've seen flashfloods reach that height in seconds. The
driver could easily have been driving slowly and carefully through
six-inch water, then got hit by the flood and trapped. In fact, 15 to
18 inches is pretty much the minimum for a vehicle to be lifted and
carried in the current, so he could have gotten hit with a minor
flashflood that drove him into the torrent we saw in that pic.

Yes. This was on a busy street corner, and the traffic lights were
prolly out, too.

I've got at least 2 other pictures of it as well, since I bought the Sun
the day after it happened so I would have a record.

True, but the point was if he had driven into it on the assumption it wasn't
that deep... there had to be some point of reference for depth... although
if he wasn't paying much attention, then he could quickly be in trouble...

If it was done for that reason, it's a good way. But I don't think it
was done for that reason.

Absolutely correct. A lot of people know the area they're driving
through and generally use landmarks to (inaccurately) gauge a flood's
depth.
