Dropping in after a long time away [message #291018] Di, 27 Juni 2006 22:46
Terrana
Evening, all.

How long has it been? Must be something like two years since I last
dropped in, three since I was active. Curiosity got the better of me
today, and I decided to drop by and see how the old place was doing.

The reason I left in the first place was that AFD seemed dead, and
looked to still be so when I poked my head in back in 2004. A quick
glance at my current feed shows that there's been a bit of activity
lately, so I think I'll stick around for a little while this time and see.

It's nice to see a few names I recognize around, but more that I don't.
So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to have to read through some old posts
to find out who you all are.

We're still here, in some form at least. Hi, Terrana -- welcome back to
the Wang Toodle! :)

I am minded of a certain sequence in a Monty Python film, here.
Honestly, activity here comes and goes. It's likely never going to be
as consistently busy as it was back in the late Nineties and early
Naughties -- Usenet, after all, is a dying medium -- but we can still
get a few twitches from AFD without having to winch it up to the ceiling
in a thunderstorm.

*Laughs* I sure hope it doesn't come to that!
Though...given the weather around here, a thunderstorm might not be too
difficult to conjure up...had four of them in the last week.

Oh the place may often seem dead, but it never truly is. There's always the
lurkers, and sooner or later one of us regulars posts something insane to

Don't worry, I usually am. Well, about 30% of the time. Which is more time than

And it's this very greenliness that tells you about the stoat. It can all get
quite confusing if someone gives you the shoes instead of the radishes though,
or worse, gives you both.

Don't the bolts go with the nuts... or something?

That could be the answer! It's aliiiive!

In other news, I've just watched the Hollywood version of Godzilla and,
aside from wanting those two hours of my life back again, as in
Dragonslayer my sympathy was firmly with the big beastie throughout.
There wasn't even any pretence of debate about whether it was right to
kill off a mother being protective of her eggs.

Actually, I rather enjoyed most of the movie, anything that shows NYC
being laid waste usually rates well with me... can't say I thought much
of the ending though, dead gojira = badness.

In that vein, I liked the first halves of Armageddon, ID4, The Day After
Tomorrow... I think you can see the trend. :)

I've generally stopped watching films. Mostly they just annoy me these days,
often for reasons such as this. The world would most likely be a better place
without Hollywood. Or if not the world, then certainly the entertainment industry.
