During this episode Q (father) tells his son (Q) "if the continuum has
told you once they have told you a thousand times, don't provoke the
Borg!" Did something happen with the Q continuum and the Borg?

Q did exactly what he told his son not to do -- he provoked the Borg
into an early meeting with the Federation.

Wither or not this is what he's referring to, who knows? Surely the
Borg pose no threat to the Q, but the Q "playing" with the Borg has
consequences for innocent by standing races.

I don't see how the Borg could be any threat to the Q,
if that's what you mean. I suspect the Continuum just
doesn't like them getting riled up in case it gets them
going out assimilating everybody in sight or something.
