Da Vinci Code Subject Matter [message #276561] Fr, 02 Juni 2006 21:47

Just curious, I know it is only a movie, but I remember when the original
Star Wars came out and people began to worship the Force and I remember
people worshipping Spock. So what do you think of Dan Brown's
inconsistencies, falsehoods, and truth stretching of the subject matter,
that Christ was secretly married to Mary Magdelene?

Millions of Catholics already worship Mary around the world. It's
called Mariolatry. As far as worshipping Christ's descendant,
first you have to find his descandant. I doubt it's Audrey Tautou,
though she is cute enough to be the offspring of Jesus.

Yes I believe everything he says in his book 100%, as does everyone that
reads it and every other book published as a murder mystery. If you are
really interested in factual information about the actual life, vs the
mythos of Jesus Christ, read Baigents new book, The Jesus Papers. He
provides some very compelling evidence.

It's a work of fiction, which is a "falsehood" by definition. True faith is
not shaken by something as simple as a novel or a movie.

If there ever was a Jesus Christ, maybe he did get it on with Mary
Magdelene?

And would it make any miracles he had performed any less miraculous? Would
it have made any insightful comments he made any less insightful? I just
don't understand why Jesus would be less than he may have been if he were
involved in a loving and committed relationship with a woman. If anything,
wouldn't this make what he had to say to the average person/spouse/family
member even more meaningful?

Probably closer to the truth than that other work of fiction: aka the bible.

That's the part that's hard to believe.
The miracles and stuff.

As things being said by a more average guy? Could be.

Thing is that Jesus was a Jew and he taught and believed in Judaism. Out
of all the gospels wouldn't you think that the one written by his own
brother, James, would be the closest to what really happened? Paul and the
others never met him. Jesus himself never claimed to be the son of god. Yet
the catholic church handpicked the gospels they wanted to use to help
influence the masses, instead of which one may be closest to the truth.
Thus the "myth" of Jesus was adopted instead of the real life Jesus, where
he may have been married and was a practicing Jew.

And wherever the Catholic church found an opposing view... Well, nothing
nice happened to those with other opinions.
