Hi folks!
I've been surfing the net as I always do on a Saturday and came upon a
truly overwelming tribute site to my favorite star trek character. The
site featured messages from fans to Scotty to be sent with him into
space.
I was stunned. So much love pouring out to this man, who was my
rolemodel, my hero and my friend. I'm proud to call him friend. I'm not
the only fan who does. Many of our comunity were friendly with him.
That's because Jim cared about us. He truly loved his fans, even when
we irritated him. I did occasionally, as he liked to tell me. He could
be gruff and loving all at the same time. Like a father. He was a bit
of a father figure to me.
I first met Jim in late 70s just before the first Star Trek movie came
out. I met him in a supermarket. Actually my wife met him first,
because he hit on her. LOL Oh, he was a charming man with an eye for
the ladies, very flirtatious and asked my wife for help with the
peaches. For many years I teased him about what kind of peaches he had
in mind and he would reply: Just be glad that the peaches in my hand
weren't the same I was thinking about at that moment. Well, at least he
was honest. LOL That was Jim. A smug devil, bright as a whip with a
genuine winsome smile.
I miss him an awful lot and I'm just glad to see that other fans
remember him as fondly as I do.
God be with you, Jim
I wish you were still around to give us hope, at a time when the ones
who lead can not be trusted... The glamour of Star Trek is gone with
you and leaves us with fear and sadness.
I'm scared of the future like I never was before in my whole life.
The number of tributes to Scotty speak for Jim's wonderful character
and his truly loveable personality. I wonder how many fans can claim to
be friendly with Bill Shatner. Jim told me,. it's not our miss it's
Bill's miss. I guess he's right.
