Today at 10 a.m. Pacific time, the Las Vegas Monorail will be invaded by
Klingons, Borg, Ferengi, Romulans, and Andorians. These aliens will continue
to ride the monorail five days a week through December in order to promote
Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton.
12 aliens from Star Trek will appear in all today, three to speak to the
media and nine to ride the Star Trek Monorail alongside Las Vegas commuters.
"It is an unprecedented honor to welcome this prestigious delegation to
Earth," said Curtis Myles, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Monorail
Company. "We intend to openly share our public transit technologies with
them and to communicate with them as necessary during their three month
mission."
From September 22nd to December 22nd 2005, alien characters will appear on
the monorail from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to
interact with riders. The 4.2-mile circuit connects the casinos of the Las
Vegas Strip to the city's convention center at seven stops. "Last year we
imaged the interior and exterior of one monorail train in a Star Trek
theme," explained Jerry Helms, vice president of Star Trek: The Experience.
"We're confident this environment will...create an exciting and entertaining
experience for the millions of people who ride the Las Vegas Monorail."
"From the farthest reaches of the universe we have watched the Las Vegas
Monorail operate flawlessly since the Earth month of January," announced
Lieutenant Commander Voq'ha, one of the Klingon delegation riding the train
car. "We have identified ...the most technologically-advanced public transit
system in the Milky Way galaxy." In addition to Voq'ha, the Borg Three of
Six and two Vulcans, Sabek and Suran, find it logical to take the monorail
to the $70 million Star Trek Experience, which houses two interactive
attractions, a museum, a restaurant and a group of shops.
Tickets for the simulators may be purchased at Star Trek: The Experience
(http://www.startrekexp.com/) while tickets for the monorail may be
purchased at LVMonorail.com.
