Jean Luc's haircut [message #127934] Mi, 07 September 2005 15:23
Roderick Rutlidge
I think it is cool, but why didn't he just shave the whole thing instead of
leaving that tiny patch of white? I used to think vanity didn't exist in the
future but it clearly does considering all the makeup worn by the women and
the perfectly groomed beards and hair kept by the men. So the question
remains, why does Jean Luc not have his hair restored?

Also, do the crewmen defecate and urinate in their uniforms? I once read on
a website that there is only a single bathroom on the enterprise, because
the space suits absorb the feces and transmit it back into the replicator at
night.

Poverty is eliminated, not vanity. Troi talked about her boobs.
Poverty is a condition that can be changed but emotions can't
be stripped away, unless you are a Vulcan.

Now, as far as the peeing and pooping goes, I don't think I have
ever heard one way or the other. I am sure they have some futuristic
converter that recycles it into plasma for the injectors.

Was Star Trek 3: TSFS the first time that was mentioned?
Or was it in the TOS?

They have a transporter suppository. Getting it in is the hard part...

Is vanity shaving your head, or leaving it alone?

I do remember a few people saying they "had to take a pee" (or something
like that) a few times on Enterprise.

On a kind of related point: I challenge anybody to find the actual toilet in
the bathroom between the kids' room on Brady Bunch.

By the 24th (TNG) century, I expect that transporter technology will
have become so precise that a "bathroom transporter" can simply beam the
urine right out of your bladder and it can beam the poop right out of
your large intestine.

If I remember correctly that's kind of already being done by NASA. i
can't remember if its on the ISS or the shuttle or both, but all water
waste including sweat, urine, and shower water is collected by some
heavy duty filter and then goes through a purification process and is
recycled into drinkable water.
