Well, not really. She should have at least told us what the jacket /
back cover said....
On the subject of Trek Novels, anyone here ever read Federation?
Interesting TOS/TNG crossover. Bit predictable, but then again,
there's only so many stories..

From the reviews, it doesn't sound like it's anything
earth-shattering,

insights but rather treat it as a bit of escapist fun and a few hours
of light reading, it has done all it intends"

I compare it to 'First Contact' since it's about Cochrane.
I liked 'Federation' better.

Given that the ONLY content of her post is: "I picked up a new one the

Thank you. :) It's amusing to see how much dust some people can kick up

BTW, I'm also interested to know what other new TOS novels are available

The character Cochrane in 'Federation' is the same character as in the

Thank goodness yes.
Sadly it's not canon.
It couldn't be specially after 'First Contact'.

The New Earth series I think. Not really all that new but I liked them.
Same goes for the two 'Eugenics Wars' books.

It's been so long since I've read a new Star Trek novel. I find it
somewhat disheartening that every one of them these days has to be part of
a series. What happened to the old days of one shot novels that didn't
require you to read several books to understand. I recently re-read "The
Klingon Gambit." Now THOSE were the good old days of Star Trek novels!

Most of the one shot novels were by writers who actually had new
ideas, or perhaps, a new spin on an old idea. However, the "series"
thing is just a way to package crappy rehashed stories in a way that
all but forces you to buy the rest of the series in the hope of
knowing WTF is going on.
Case in point, the Captain's Table 'series.' While not bad by itself,
(I have the one w/Picard in it, Dujonian's Hoard, the end of DH brings
in Sisko, so in order to find out Sisko's story, you have to buy THAT
book.
Not to mention the Day of Honor series, which, again, wasn't bad...but
if it weren't for the gimmick, there'd be little to recommend it.
Even the older writers of Trek novels rarely got it truly right. In
some cases, like "Mutiny on the Enterprise, " what could be an
interesting idea got bogged down by contrivied, predictable events.
(Case in point, in MotE, who DIDN'T know that Lorelei was going to
take over the Ent?)
Some of the books, like Dreadnought were written from the perspective
of different characters...but sadly, this too rarely worked out. (the
aforementiond "dreadnought" was mildly entertaining, but then when they
brought out the sequel, "Battlestations" it read like a retread of the
first book, literally.
Star Trek novels have traditionally suffered from the same fate as
many other Sci-fi novels based on a franchise. While there have been
some true gems in the series over the years (My Enemy, My Ally comes
to mind, as does The Abode of Life, and finally, How much for just the
planet?) most of them range from Enterprise 3rd season good all the
way down to Voyager: Threshold (or Spirit Folk) bad.

The last good new one I read was CLOAK.
